It's not much of a picture, but here's my last picture of Jewely. She's looking over to the right of the tree, looking out the gate.
It's been a little over a week since I lost Jewely. Monday evening I was getting the garbage cans ready for the trash to be picked up Tuesday morning, and my dad turned the lights of his truck on so I could see better. Which is what he did last week when we went to take care of Jewely. So it brought a lot of emotions to me. I'm just always so sentimental, and saying goodbye to friends or family, even for a short time, always gets me a little.
Anyway, I remember some more things that I wanted to include. I didn't know how to insert it into the original post, so for now at least, I'll put it in a new blog. First, I remember since we moved into the house, there have been a couple of times I sent Jewely outside for awhile, and looked out and saw her laying down like a sphinx enjoying the sun. She loved being warm, and it was great to see her just enjoying the sun. One of the spots she was soaking up the sun is about where she is buried. So I thought that was really cool, in a way. She can enjoy the sun all the time now. Of course, she's up in Heaven, but you know, symbollically.
Next, I remember Jewely liking to be up on the couch with me so much, that she'd try to get on the couch and she'd do here little hippity hop to try to get on the couch, just like when she wanted me to pick her up. When I was moving and had a lot of boxes in front of the couch, I would laugh to see her little head bob up and down and she tried to get up on top of them and over to me. I'd pick her up and bring her over.
And finally, this doesn't really have to do with Jewely specifically, but over the 4th of July weekend, I watched an episode of the Twilight Zone called 'The Hunt'. In it, a man, Hyder, takes his dog Rip for a racoon hunt, where they both fall into a lake. Later, they realize they've passed on, and they go for a walk along a road after he doesn't recognize a fence. They come to a gate where a man says his spot is saved for him. Hyder wants to take Rip along, but the man says dogs aren't allowed. The man decides that a place where he couldn't be with his dog was no place for him, so he continues on the road. Eventually, he encounters another man and gate. The man says his place in heaven is ready for him. When Hyder asks if his dog can come, the man says of course. He tells the man about the other man and how they wouldn't allow his dog to go with him. The man tells him that's because the other place is basically Hell, and that they know the dog would know they were in the wrong place and try to warn Hyder, so it's a good thing he had Rip with him. He tells him a man will walk right into Hell with both eyes open, but even the Devil can't fool a dog.
It's just ironic that I watched this episode a few days before Jewely died. A place where she wasn't around wouldn't be a place I'd like to be. I'm greatful for the kind words of encouragement my friends and family have given me, and personal stories that shore up my faith that I will see Jewely again.
